Quilt Battings

Batting is the term used for the layer that is put between the quilt top and backing to provide structure, strength, warmth, and definition to our quilts.

There are many types of battings, with different fibre content (cotton, wool, polyester, etc.), different lofts, and different widths.  Want to learn more about batting? Here is a great article that I found: All About Batting.

The following list are the battings that I have available, arranged by fibre content.. All of my battings are sold by the yard.

Cotton Blend Battings

Hobbs Heirloom
80/20 Natural
96" wide - $16.99 per yard
120" wide - $19.99 per yard

Heirloom® Premium Cotton Blend is made from 80% long staple cotton fibers and 20% fine polyester. This combination of fibers creates a strong, longwearing batt and is very easy to handle.

The batting is lightly needle punched and treated with a soft resin to provide stability to the fibers and prevent the polyester from bearding. This process makes Heirloom® Cotton Blend Batting uniquely easy to quilt by hand.

Hobbs Heirloom
80/20 Bleached
108" wide - $19.99 per yard

Heirloom Premium 80/20 Bleached Cotton Blend is highly recommended for white or very light colored quilts. The bleached cotton fibers provide a very white batting that will not cause a shadow effect on the colors of a light quilt top.

Bleached Cotton Blend is manufactured in the same manner as our Premium 80/20 in natural cotton. For this product the batting is made with 80% bleached cotton and 20% fine polyester. It is lightly needle punched and resin bonded to provide exceptional strength and durability.

Bleached 80/20 is wonderful to quilt by hand or machine. Close quilting yields a flat low loft appearance while more space between stitching lines yields a slightly higher loft. You may experience shrinkage of 3-5% and it may be quilted up to 4in apart.

Hobbs Heirloom
80/20 Black

ONLY 1 PIECE LEFT!
2 3/4 yds @ 108" =  99" x 108"
CLEARANCE - $40

Heirloom Cotton is made from 80% black cotton fibers and 20% black polyester. It's made the same way as our Premium 80/20, except we use black dyed cotton to provide quilters a dark batting that will not show through a dark quilt top. The combinations of these fibers creates a strong, long wearing batting that is very easy to work with. It will give your dark quilts a flatter, more traditional look without the need for excessive quilting. It is lightly needle punched and resinated to provide a stable fiber, and it prevents bearding. Quilt up to 4" apart. 3-5% shrinkage.
